Biscayne National Marine Park Located in South Florida

Located in South Florida, east of Homestead, Biscayne is the largest marine park of the US National Park Service and it is the one the best scuba diving spots in North America. With its shore right at the tip of a 200 square mile mangrove forest, the park consists ninety five percent of water.

The park includes several undeveloped islands making it perfect for scuba diving, snorkeling, canoing, sailing, kayaking and cruising.

With various camping spots the park’s main attraction is fishing, as most visitors approach Biscayne on their boats, while along the many water recreations the park also hosts Ranger-conducted activities as well as boat tours for visitors.

The water area of the park is open around the clock, while the visitor centers are open during business hours and there are no entrance fees except for camping and overnight boat docking.

Ensuring a year-round sunshine in its subtropical weather, the park offers great guided boat tours as well as kayak and canoe rents throughout the year as there is no other way of getting into the park’s reefs and islands from the mainland otherwise.

Must see spots and attractions are the The Dante Fascell Visitor Center, offering a virtual journey through the park’s ecosystem and Boca Chita Key, which is the park’s most popular island, yet lacking freshwater and electricity.

The park’s largest island is Elliot Key, with adequate visitor facilities like restrooms showers. The island also has its designated swimming area on the bay, along with picnic tables and barbecue grills that should all make a great family weekend getaway in this beautiful marine park resort.
